We have an opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated apprentice to start their career in local government.

No two days are the same in our busy, friendly team and you will have the opportunity to work with colleagues across the council to help inform people who live, work and study in the borough about their public services.

You will be involved in developing our flagship campaigns, which have made a positive difference to people across our diverse community. You’ll be creating engaging content, including videos and images and bringing fresh ideas for our digital communications channels, monitoring and evaluating the impact of activity.

Alongside your work, you will complete a level 4 Public Relations and Communications Assistant Apprenticeship Level 4 qualification.

The apprenticeship will be offered on a fixed term 19 months contract and is a hybrid working role with a minimum of 3 days spent working in the Merton Civic Centre office.

Required skills and behaviours:

  • You will need good verbal and written communication skills, be able to work individually but also as part of a team and be well organised.
  • You will need to have good IT skills.
  • With a positive attitude, you will be solution focused and able to use your own initiative to resolve problems, consistently working to a high professional standard.
  • As an enthusiastic and flexible member of staff, you will be able and willing to take on a variety of new tasks (with direction) and apply yourself to them.

To be eligible for apprenticeship funding the following criteria set by the Department for Education must be met.

You must either:

  • Be a UK national who has been ordinarily resident in the UK, the British Overseas Territories, or Crown Dependencies for the previous three years.
